Beach Boys??? Closest competition yet for me.

Extremely different artists, but hard to decide nonetheless.  I don't think Hendrix ever made an album as great as Pet Sounds, but also the Beach Boys made a buuunch of utter shit. 

Mike Love being incredibly fucking annoying swung it for me.  Hendrix it is.

I was never a Beach Boys fan.  And I have no intent to start now.

However, anyone interested in the nascent days of California influenced rock n roll which went way beyond just Cali and America - should check out the Netflix movie 'Echo in the Canyon'.  Superb.  And the soundtrack is unreal.  Jakob Dylan (Bob's son, Wallflowers frontman) is the lead.  Crazy good.

Did you know the Beach Boys never won a Grammy?  So hardly any impact on pop and rock at all.
