I love Neil Youngs early stuff. Only Love Can Break Your Heart is one of my favorite songs ever. That being said REM is my second favorite band so gotta give it to them.

Ughh.

Neil Young sings like a girl. REM are way overrated. On balance, NY has written better songs, regardless of the presentation. So he wins.

Both great, but I've never liked Neil Young's voice, so R.E.M. for me. 

I’ve heard that NY’s voice is divisive, you love it or hate it. Before I heard that, it never occured to me that people might dislike it. I voted REM but I love Neil’s voice

Neil Young easily. I too am surprised to learn that people don’t enjoy his voice.
