I voted for the sex symbol, naturally, but I really just want them to quit.

No one.

They should bow out gracefully like R.E.M. and Rush did. If Larry isn't going to be back in the fold then I'd rather see them call it a day.

Call it a day. Their 50th anniversary is coming up in 3 years - might be a good time to fess up that it’s over

I wouldn't mind checking how Stewart Copeland would fit in... Hard to imagine him bangin' on SBS or BTBS, though...
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Let’s see if Larry pulling out is temporary. This forum has already decided the ZOOTV PT2 shows aren’t U2 concerts unless it’s the four of them. This, despite some still insisting OS1 - which featured all members of U2 - isn’t a U2 album.

The mind boggles.

Why does U2 call themselves U2 for this Vegas show if it's not really them?

Especially as Brian Eno isn't in the group.

Also, perhaps a refresher lesson for those students with a shorter memory and attention span:

It is very common for bands to replace a member with another musician, and still retain enough of their original membership to go by the same name.  There are far too many examples of this to attempt to list here, but I would direct you to the internet to find examples.  We're on the internet now, so that's gonna be easy.

It is far less common - rare in fact - for a band to not only invite a contributing creative force to the band, but also to cede creative direction to that person, make music entirely different from their previous style, and call themselves the same band.  Because for all real purposes, they are no longer the same band under these circumstances.

Even when creative collaborators (including producers) are invited to participate, they typically take background roles - not lead / directional roles.  Thus, the nature of the band has not changed in a significant enough way to change the name of the band.  Unlike in the previous scenario, where creative control/direction is ceded, and the new individual takes on full-fledged membership, and not simply a production credit, for example.

I would save this little lesson so that you can minimize confusion and disorientation later on.  We don't want any more boggling of minds to occur here.
