Is this something we really need or want?  Anyone jazzed about this possibility?

I'm not a big fan of either, so a collaboration of the last remaining parts of both does not seem to be interesting to me.

At least it's some original material. That's more than we can say for U2 at this point.

Basically I want a new Stones album, this time with Steve Jordan on drums.  I don't want another blues cover album or anything like that.  It's been 18 years since the last proper Stones album, A Bigger Bang, which wasn't that good. The Stones are in the same position as U2 whereby making a new album of original material is just too much effort with little to gain commercially for their efforts.  It's so much easier and far more lucrative to just continually play live shows of old material that concert goers want to hear anyway.

I have a niece and when she was very young, we all went to a pizza place in town.  There was discussion about toppings when she said "I like ham and I like pineapple so I'll probably like them both together"  Logical form a 5 year old.

If one likes the Stones and the Beatles, could it be said one would like them together, even though they are both shadows of their former selves?   ;)

Maybe this album was also the reason Elton John was in the studio with the Stones a few months back?

That was just the one time when Elton overstayed his welcome on stage with the Stones in Denver 1975.

No, they were sniping at each other in the press for years.

“ It all started when Richards described Elton John as a “lovely bloke, but posing” back in 1988. Then, sometime later, Richards went one step further after John re-wrote ‘Candle in the Wind’ for the late Princess Diana following her tragic death. Richards said: “An old bitch… his writing is limited to songs about dead blondes”.

It was after the criticism of the ‘Candle in the Wind’ rework that Elton John blew his top. During an interview with the New York Daily News, John let rip. He tore into the persona of Keith Richards and went as far as to say that The Rolling Stones should have fired him a long time ago.

He said: “I’m glad I’ve given up drugs and alcohol. It would be awful to be like Keith Richards. He’s pathetic, poor thing. It’s like a monkey with arthritis, trying to go on stage and look young. I have great respect for the Stones but they would have been better if they had thrown Keith out 15 years ago… I just think he’s an a-hole and I have for a long time.”

Macca will only appear on one song on the Stones upcoming album.  Maybe a duet, maybe just backing vocals, probably the latter.  Charlie Watts recorded new stuff with the Stones before his death so they'll probably include that, with some drumming contribution from Steve Jordan.

Prince could do a good impression of arthritic monkey Keef on stage.  RIP.
