“It’s going to take all we’ve got to approach the Sphere without our bandmate in the drum seat, but Larry has joined us in welcoming Bram van den Berg who is a force in his own right"

Translation:  "We directed our manager [side note: who the fuck is their manager now????] to inform Larry he is being replaced in an email sent to him 5 minutes before this announcement.  Since Larry did not object, we take that as his enthusiastic endorsement."

I don't think Larry would want the band to break up because he can't perform but the rest of the band want to continue on.  The point is the rest of the band seem content to continue without Larry.  They're definitely in Rolling Stones territory here and I always said that U2 would end up like the Rolling Stones.

Larry Mullen will be back to tour with U2 in 2024/2025.

We'll see.  Nothing's for certain.  Larry obviously has debilitating health problems.  They can't always be cured by surgery.

Thanks again Blue Turtle for posting this. I was wondering if U2 would address this. I think Larry only comes back if he feels really good. If he really cares, it's hard to imagine him being okay with the rest of the band touring without him.

« Larry has joined us in welcoming Bram van den Berg »

What a strange formulation. A mix of marketing and legal crap.

It would have been so easy to shoot a video of both guys shaking hands, all smiles, with Larry apologizing to the fans and thanking Bram for stepping in.

It just shows how corporate things have become.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Some info about Bram’s supposed connection with U2…

In short : Anton Corbin’s brother shot a video with his band and Bram is comfy with playing with a click track.

Larry has always looked the youngest & fittest of the 4. Unlike the others, he uses botox.

Not knocking him, but his role on tour is less physical than Bono's or Edge's.

Thought he would be fit after such a long touring break.

Will have to read up on his injury.

Larry has been suffering from multiple injuries. The first reports of this came out as soon as 1986.

While Larry remains seated when he plays, the vibrations of his drum playing have clearly damaged his body over the years. It’s a pretty common things for drummers, when they don’t end up deaf.

'U2:UV Achtung Baby Live at the Sphere'.

Thought if they were doing a residency at Las Vegas, it would be a greatest hits show.

Rather than inflicting one album on the public. Too late for  30th anniversary shows of AB.

They are not promoting a new album. Except perhaps SOS. Which is a - greatest hits album.

Yes I know AB was a slight change of direction for them & got critical acclaim. But some of there other albums were not bad either. They were the band of the 80's for goodness sake.

But I'm sure the residency will sell out.
