R & H higher than usual.

Bomb gets some love.

October gets appreciated.

Disappointed to see SOI bottom. Myself & other polls have that mid table.

The 80's dominant the top 10.

Pop criticised!

AB & TJT in the top 2. Makes a change!

Have always felt TJT was a much stronger album than AB.

From the crashing Streets to the haunting 'Mothers' it lifted U2 to place no band had been to since The Beatles.

TJT was also U2's riskiest album. After Live Aid everyone was waiting for it. A 'Be Here Now' or a 'Second Coming' & they may have never recovered. However it was instantly hailed as the album of the decade.

Eight albums in & now huge, there was less at stake for AB. They could afford to shed a few fans so changed direction a bit. Although it was still unmistakedly U2.

Yes I used to include 'lenght of wait' when ranking U2 albums.

However blanking that out & just going by the songs, SOI holds it's own.

When zero mention the damn apple drop soiling SOI, I don’t think “length of wait” is any kind of factor whatsoever.

Pop might be a bit higher for me after hearing so many of the tracks on the U2 sirius station recently.  It was never very high for me before so it's probably in the middle now.

I always find it interesting when people rank either Zooropa or Pop significantly higher than the other (since they were contiguous and are sonically quite similar). Care to shed some insight on this, Codeguy?

I have a spread between them because POP was rushed and the production value on album tracks suffered.  Zooropa is a technical masterclass.  Risk taking that has aged wonderfully.

U2 would have never felt the need for a tactical retreat had popmart started in arenas.   Seeing empty seats in poorly chosen venues (Jacksonville stadium) really crushed Bono’s creativity.   That started the quest for relevancy over the past 25 years.  SOI itself was the only carefree moment but they committed career suicide with the spam release.

I can't even be bothered to rank them because i realize my favorite album might not be their best,  but i like it the most.  Probably doesn't make sense but oh well.  It's like i have 7 children,  and those other 7 are bastards.

Every song on zooropa is top notch. POP has, for me, some cringe. Discotheque is embarrassing. SATS and Miami are overrated. IGWSHA is mediocre. Playboy mansion introduces us to the lyrically weak Bono of the 21st century. The album has great songs. WUDM, Please and Velvet dress come to mind; and MOFO is absolutely brilliant. I know there are some who just can’t get enough of the lovin dovin stuff but I’m not one.

Also, POP wanted to be a masterpiece. The big tour, the big publicity, it all failed.

Zooropa, by contrast was supposed to be an EP and it turned into an album because it was so brilliant. There are no weak songs and the concept fit really well into the existing Zoo TV tour and - for me - immortalized it.
