Sia divides fans at "live" gig
« on: November 30, 2017, 08:33:13 PM »
Sia stood at the back of the stage and didn't move or acknowledge the audience. Sang to a pre-recorded backing track (and likely mimed herself), no live band. The crowd watched performance dancers and pre-recorded videos.

And tickets are $114.

I think she's entitled to put on the type of show she wants, but it's disingenuous for the promoters not to give fans a heads up on what kind of show to expect -- but then, Sia would be playing to mostly empty stadiums if they did that.

But at $114 a ticket, with pre-recorded music and videos... I completely understand why fans aren't happy.

If she thinks she's original, I've seen other musicians do similar things, such as the infamous Jesus & Mary Chain playing an entire gig with their backs to the audience.

Oh, and replica Sia wigs are $50.

I think Sia is awesome, but I'd be totally pissed by this and calling my credit card company looking for a refund. I know premium credit cards cost a bit, but this is where they really help. If you screw the customer, the platinum card will gladly force the merchant to give you a refund. Screw any artist who thinks they can show up and not put their soul into it.

She clearly does not want to perform live, period. Does not want the fame. So stay home, record music, release it, live happily. Don't put fans through this.

Is she stuck in a contractual obligation a la U2 and LiveNation? Who knows. But people forked out $114 (plus travel, accommodation, etc).

I got a refund from a Ryan Adams gig. Some clown yelled out "Play Summer of '69!", Ryan cracked the shits, stormed off stage and didn't come back. Only played half an hour haha.

She's a pretentious hack that only hipsters flock to. Can't say I'm surprised at this point.

Sia seems to be "too mainstream" to attract the hipster crowd; she had a number one hit around August-time, I think.

What the fuck happened to her? Did some asswipe jump onstage at a gig and try to assault her or something?

I saw her about 15 years back when she was still in Zero7, and not before or since have I ever seen someone who was just so damned HAPPY to be onstage performing for people.

It's too bad because when I've heard her live voice it's sounded powerful and actually lovelier than her recorded voice.

Also, I remember waaaay back when before R.E.M.  were considered radio friendly and there were several live shows I attended where Michael Stipe didn't face the audience once. Sometimes he next to the drum kit for majority of the show.

Nothing bad happened. When her fame skyrocketed around 2011, she flipped. She hates fame, hates fans, hates everything about it. Which makes me wonder why she's touring, it has to be contractual obligations. And then for the promoter and others to say fans complaining "just don't get it, it's performance art" is too rich. Especially at $114 a ticket. She's never really said anything about it either -- the whole "I don't owe fans anything" attitude.

@Kmama07, I remember Stipe doing that at a few gigs and people booing.

In 2006, he told Spin magazine: “I had to go into therapy because of the whole Bryan Adams Summer of ’69 thing.” He also described his audience as “a bunch of cocks” who “come to my shows just to provoke me”.

So bizarre!!!

Ryan Adams is America's Liam Gallagher.
