I'm really curious to know why you think it's creepy, dude!

I actually haven't listened to this song apart from a 30 second sneak peek. I was expecting something like New Years Day, with the red flag being political and a play on the white flag of peace. Guess not! lol

The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

It’s like a song from WAR, not creepy at all

Creepy seems an odd description but whatever.

Yo, Cat!
The lyrics imply a very dark story. You could swap the character singing the song from Bono to a Syrian-, Lybian-, Middle Eastern- or African refugee urging his family/loved one to join him in his quest to the paradise nobody sees until it's gone, despite dangerous weather conditions out at sea.

It's just as political a song as American Soul, and it may allude to Brexit, the EU, democracy and peace and humanity on a larger scale. The last couple years were all red flag ones.

It takes a second to say good bye, say good bye oh-oh-ooo

and

Woh-oo-oh she is a pretty face, born at the wrong time and in the wrong place.

Gotcha. Yeah, it's kind of a love song but also singing about the refugees who drowned while crossing the Mediterranean. I'm not sure the two really mix!

I love the tension. Try listening as if it were a hopeful refugee calling to their own to join them on the waves despite the storm warning. Then switch back to Bono when he's heard the news of all the people lost to the waves. And the line where the sea can't stop people from trying to cross her is eerie.

Maybe I should have used "eerie" in place of "creepy" (too many creepy creeps crawling around the news these days)

I think the song is haunting. One of those songs that sound happy, but are really dark at heart.

Baby it's a Red Flag Day
Baby let's get in the water
Taken out by a wave

I mean, how much darker can you get? It jumps from "baby let's get in the water" to a wave killing them all.

And later:

Not even news today
So many lost in the sea last night

The number of migrants killed in the sea doesn't even make the news. Horrific. But the song's music is hopeful, the way you've got to feel to get in the sea to escape.

Eerie is a better adjective for sure. Haunting as well. Been listening to it a lot more today and SatelliteDog and Paulie are on the money, it's such a bittersweet tune, heartbreaking. On the surface it's a breezy love song, but diver deeper and it has darker currents. Really, really like it.

i think Cedars of Lebanon is creepy.

Musically yeah, but the introspection of the narrator gives it a sense of bleak contentment.

And for me recognizing and embracing that darkness made the track work in the first place. The storm clouds are there in the music, and it kinda nudges you to think about why they are there.

Had iTunes on random and Electrical Storm came up after Red Flag Day... they sound pretty good together.
