Its almost time to dig out October album
« on: August 29, 2021, 08:18:35 AM »
I cant believe we are already only weeks away from my annual tradition of playing October album, a few times, every year, on the 1st of October. This year has flown by really, except fro January, which took an eternity to pass.
October is the ONLY u2 album that has its own special day, in my life. The album itself evokes very special memories, of hanging out with my mates, listening to the album, when i was in my early teens. Often it would be stormy outside, but my mates and myself would be cosy inside, listening to the album, with the heating on. VERY special times for me ❤
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

Tomorrow is in my top 5 favourite U2 songs and October is the best of the first 3 LP’s.

U2's first 4 albums were my introduction to them in 1986. All were different from each other & all brilliant.

I don't seek out individual songs from October. But have no problem listening to whole album without skipping.

October is severely underrated IMHO. It conjures up a coherent atmosphere, missing from many U2 LP’s. I return to it often whereas I haven’t listened to:

R&H
SOI
NLOTH
Bomb
ATYCLB

I have no sentimental attachment to the album.  As far as I'm concerned it's one of the weakest two U2 albums and all that matters to me are the three standout tracks - Tomorrow, Gloria and October, the rest is just meh.  I don't really associate it with Autumn although I do like Autumnal music, songs such as Uptown Uptempo Woman by Randy Edelman, Summer Highland Falls by Billy Joel, Empire State of Mind - In New York by Alicia Keys, and Forever Autumn by Justin Hayward.

October is probably my favorite U2 album, at least tied with TUF. But I will admit that it's not their best album 'objectively'.

October shares a similar atmosphere to TUF.

I enjoy the atmosphere and the innocent spirituality of October.  There are two songs (I throw a brick, with a shout)  I appreciated more after listening to the BBC recordings. The rest I liked on the first listen.

It beggars belief that anyone would consider October to be a lesser album than anything post POP.

T Minus 2.5 days, till i get to do my annual couple of listens to October album. That means, it will soon be my fave 2 weeks of the year (Xmas and New Year).
This years decision is...................whether to listen to October on Vinyl, on CD or stream it. I think last year, i streamed it, so this year, Im thinking maybe CD version

For me there is only one choice... The cream vinyl I purchased a couple of years ago...

Love the atmosphere on October. Like for Zoo Adam it was part of my U2 education with the first 4 and a Blood red sky VHS cassette in 1985. A girl I was in love with made a beautiful painting in black and white of a girl kneeling by a lake with the first lines of the title track written on it. I can’t and won’t review it using logic, heart and gut are quite enough.
