ADAM: U2 supports possible Bono solo album
« on: July 29, 2021, 10:10:53 AM »
In an interview, Adam just hinted that a Bono solo album has the support of U2 band members. The context seemed to imply that it was hypothetical rather than an actual in-the-works project, but it was interesting that the topic was even raised. Adam also teased a U2 track in the movie Sing 2 but it's not clear if it's a new track or if it's just a reference to the new version of I still haven't found what I'm looking for that we've already heard. Donít do it, Bono.
Maybe it could allow him to go places he usually avoids ?
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Oh, like he can throw off his bandmatesí restraining influence and finally write Get On Your Love Boots Because Love is Bigger Than Anything Else Coming Your Way!

And try to sing a high C in it?

Interesting that Adam refers to acoustic versions of older songs. I remember an earlier reference he made to older songs and I thought he meant older unreleased songs. I was obviously wrong, and acoustic versions of released songs in different tempos and keys would be very welcome, as I like to add my own stamp to some of their songs when playing them on the acoustic guitar. Hope they release an album's worth. Maybe even a double album....

It could sound quite different than a U2 album.  Different musicians, guests and use of horns etc.

Yes, it could sound very interesting indeed, and although I didn't think u2 would ever do a project like this, I'd be all for it. Bring it on lads

I'd be all for a Bono solo release if it means funneling tracks like Best Thing About Me and Out of Your Own Way away from U2 albums.

Ah, Bono's Jimmy Buffett album, followed by a Caribbean Cruise Tour with U2.com members.

They don't have stadiums on cruise ships.

Previous Bono solo efforts have been interesting - in the name of the father comes to mind; of course Iím not sure he could pull off something like that these days

Hasn't Bono said numerous times that he wouldn't be able to pull it off?

Still, an interesting idea. Get Buddy Miller to produce.

I can't imagine that anyone who really follows this band thinks that the issues with Bono's singing and songwriting are due to some sort of brilliance being held back.

Perhaps a more cynical, but more accurate, translation of Adam's comment is "Bono's probably got some solo albums ahead of him, because he can't give it up, but the rest of us are ready to be done."

I'd love to have a Bono album full of political and socioeconomic platitudes, with a fair bit of feminist tropes sprinkled in.  References to America and big ideas.  No song titles under 10 words.  And all singing through a bullhorn.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

Yeah, that sounds about right.

I spent twenty years telling friends that they had it wrong about Bono, that he wasn't really that guy.

Then he became that guy.

GAHHHHHH.
