Love those early demos, especially The Dream Is Over and Life On a Distant Planet.

Yeah, I like Life On A Distant Planet, too. The early demos are such fun to listen to.

It's amazing how fast they progressed from "Inside Out" and "Night Fright" in 1978 to writing the songs that would become Boy in the next year or two. And less time passed between Another Day and New Year's Day than between SOE and now.

That's why I love the old demos...they show the progression of their talents, their lyric writing, etc

Its so funny how Edge played that very conventional long improvised style solo in Street Mission.

Yes...
I like to listen to these old demos a lot. I can hear where Larry is going to bloom into a really fine drummer. Edge is still fairly basic, but you can tell he is going to explode into a star once he lets go of those basics. And, Adam...well, he is mostly just muddling along. And, of course, Bono is already The Showman.

And, shall we move forward...

Funny though, Edge actually sounds more technically capable in a conventional sense in these early demos than he did on Boy or October or War. It kind of supports the idea that he went the direction he did more as a conscious creative choice rather than an instinctive response in playing to his strengths and weaknesses.

I've always said (about the later stuff, mostly) that he's not a super technical guitarist. But what he does with his guitar and other sound equipment...simply knocks my socks off. Creative is the right word, Tortuga!

And, another thing I love about the old demos...Bono has not "Americanized" his voice yet.
