10 Southern rock albums you should definitely own
« on: May 06, 2021, 09:07:19 AM »
Anybody into Southern Rock here?  I've got a couple on this list.  It's a genre I think that has been either assimilated  into country music or simply faded away as a product of it's time back int he 70's and early 80's.

Cool thread. I have Blackfoot (I'm part Blackfoot!), The Allman Bros,  and the 38 Special. I think Stevie Ray should be on that list, though.

Blackfoot was an amazing high energy Southern hard rock band.

Tomcattin', Strikes, Marauder and the highway Song live album are all great.

just picked up Skynyrd at Knebworth Vinyl and DVD, great stuff.

That's a strong list. I wouldn't have picked that particular Outlaws album, but it's a better intro to the band than the one I would've picked, namely its studio followup Playin' To Win or the live album that came out between the two. While I'm at it, I would've picked Skynyrd's last album, but I understand why the author went where they did.

I enjoy southern rock.
I am more a fan of what's sometimes called alt- country or americana, sort of an off-shoot of southern rock
Some artists include Wilco, drive-by truckers,  kathleen Edwards, Lucinda Williams, Marcus king band, Neko case, Jason isbell, Brandi Carlisle.  Others as well    a lot great story telling, lyrics in this genre
Thoughts?
