WOWY, One and BD would be the best choices from each decade.  In the interest of narrowing it down to a single option, I voted for WOWY since it was both a big hit and the first song out of that lot to be released.

Surely everyone knows the chorus to BD. Ditto ISHFWILF.

BD was number 1 in the UK & the theme tune to a prime time Football show. Not sure how it did in America.

ISHFWILF was on the JT & a successful single in the UK & US.

NYD has been around a long time.

Vertigo is more recent. A lot will know the chorus.

One. The song that brought the former hippie boomers around.

I vote for One. Maybe some others are more well known, but I think One is more universally appreciated.

Definitely WOWY. It's extremely well known, a good sing a long song and also something people can relate to in their own lives. Unlike, for example, NYD which is about the Polish Solidarity movement.

I will follow - definitely not

New Years Day - it's well known but doesn't have the wide appeal of WOWY

Sunday Bloody Sunday - it's well known but doesn't have the wide appeal of WOWY

Pride - it's shit

ISHFWILF - it's well known but doesn't have the wide appeal of WOWY

WTSHNN - its well known for sure and a live favourite but it doesn't have the wide appeal of WOWY

The Fly - I doubt many people outside of core fandom could sing this song

One - it's well known but doesn't have the wide appeal of WOWY

Beautiful Day - it's well known but doesn't have the wide appeal of WOWY

Vertigo - I doubt many people outside of core fandom could sing this song

Never considered WOWY a sing a long song. Although it was on TJT and a hit in the UK and US. .

What U2 song people can relate to in their own lives, depends on the individual.

The only U2 songs I can ever recall hearing in a nightclub are Pride and All I want is you.

NYD will be universal as it is called 'New Years Day'.

The song may get played around that time. Either on the radio or at parties.

Non U2 fans won't know or care about the details of what the song is about.

I disagree. On many counts

1) Pride. Itís not shit even if you tell us 1000 more times.

2) BD is universally well known. Heck, it was commercialized to death.

3) Same with Vertigo. Itís a song that was a worldwide hit not so long ago.

4) WOWY is a good pick here, but considering the age of the song, Iím afraid it falls behind One and BD, as far as universal appeal is concerned.

Peace, Larry.
