from sweet feast to shit fest
« on: March 01, 2021, 05:51:18 PM »
Think of great albums by artists and bands that got followed by steaming piles of shit music by those very same people. That's what this is about. Let me get things started.    :D

Discovery - Electric Light Orchestra. Ok, Out Of The Blue could've easily been a killer single LP instead of the 2-LP stuffed bra of an album that we got, but it was still a good listen and massive hit, filled with audio candy. Its followup could be more accurately titled Disco...very. And bad disco at that.

I'm sure I'll contribute more to this thread and have fun doing so, but now it's your turn.

Boston, 1st album...great. Nothing even close to good after that.
The end is not as fun as the start

I googled the most disappointing follow-up albums and Zooropa is number 5 on the list.
I disagree.

The ones that come to mind for me are TRHCP's One Hot Minute which followed Blood Sugar Sex Magic.
There was a long gap and Dave Navarro was a member and his style of music just isn't the Chilli Pepper's sound.

The Beach Boys went from Pet Sounds to the the shelved Smile which had one of the greatest singles on it, but the album itself imploded from drugs and Brian Wilson's quest to make a masterpiece.

Smile is still better than what came after it. Smiley Smile i mean. He'd already made his masterpiece in Pet Sounds

I like Smiley Smile... still haven't heard the restored Smile session tapes though. I believe there are a couple versions of that which were released over the years.

they put out a huge box set of all the Smile demos BB did and then in 04 Brian "finished" it and released that.

So I guess the 2004 version isn't much liked?
