The Talk U2 Mod Team
« on: October 15, 2017, 11:59:28 PM »
Hello everyone!

ShadowMac here (formerly tigerfan41 on other forums) and I'd like to thank you for joining our new forums. We just launched on October 14, 2017 and are continuing to set things up to provide the easiest, most pleasant U2 fan forum experience available on the internet. We believe in transparency and allowing the members to help choose what this forum does and doesn't include. Part of that transparency is letting you know who is helping out administratively, so here's a quick intro to the current Talk U2 staff:

ShadowMac - Administrator and site founder
An Tha - Administrator
Codeguy - Global Moderator
Smee - Global Moderator
mpare - Global Moderator

Our staff will continue to grow as the forums continue to grow, so we invite all interested in moderating to contact any one of the administrators with your interest.

Our rules can be found here: http://forum.talku2.com/index.php?topic=60.0

Thank you!

Also want to say hi and express my hope this forum will be friendly, engaging, and that we'll all get involved in the conversations.  No-one should be scared to express their feelings about any and all U2 material.  Did you say you like Boots or Stand Up Comedy?  That's perfectly fine - we're going to be a broad church.  Any ideas or suggestions to improve the place will always be most welcome, so don't be shy.

Well, then...I'm just gonna let my freak flag fly here: Unknown Caller is a good (and very misunderstood) song.

Just put it out there...blowin' in the breeze...
Hold on, people! The man's talking about waste management. That affects the whole damn planet.

I like the songs. But they're not among my favorites. Boots has one of their nicest pre-choruses.

Stand Up Comedy has 'God is love and love is evolutions very best day'. That last verse is sung great. I really don't get the hate towards SUC, we wanted U2 to do things much different than the things they have done before. Ever heard a U2 song with similar guitar riff? Maybe it SUCks ;).

My problem with Stand Up Comedy is it sounds like a croaky Oasis song lacking pace and direction.  I agree it's good for them to try new things but it just doesn't fit well with the other material on NLOTH - would've been a better song for HTDAAB, or even SOI.  I actually like Boots and always have done - there, I've confessed now  :)

You are 100% right that SUC doesn't fit on NLOTH, but it's still a good song...JFW said it well...that guitar riff is just really WOW!
And, I think Boots is a fun, fun song...and, I'm proud of you for your confession!

Maybe a tracklist should be constructed with only those allegedly "cringe-worthy" songs. Put together an album with only those. Because of what it represents to so many (as U2's sad attempt at radio-pop success) GOYB should be considered the lead single. It may be that if all the questionable songs were in one place they would make for a decent (albeit lesser) album. At the very least it would isolate the infection.
