U2's most famous songs in the United States

01. With Or Without You
02. I Still Haven't Found What I'm Looking For
03. One
04. Beautiful Day
05. Pride(In The Name Of Love)
06. Where The Streets Have No Name
07. Vertigo
08. Mysterious Ways
09. Sunday Bloody Sunday
10. New Years Day

Runners up: Desire, I Will Follow, Bad.

I base this on an overall formula, of album sales, peak positions on the U.S. HOT 100 and longevity on that chart, to a lesser extent streaming numbers on youtube, which is not specific to the United States, awards, my own opinion from what I've seen in terms of what people like and recognize by U2 over the years.

Sunday Bloody Sunday never made the HOT 100 U.S. chart, but it is very well known, and is featured on the WAR album which went 4 times platinum and the Under A Blood Red Sky Album which went 3 times platinum.

Desire on the other hand was a big hit at the time making it to #3 on the U.S. HOT 100 and coming from an album that eventually went 5 times platinum in the United States. Still, over time, I think its popularity or recognition has faded a bit, which is why it does not make the top 10 compared with Sunday Bloody Sunday.

Not sure what others think, but I think these songs are likely the ten most famous U2 songs in the United States at this point in time. I realize this is probably different in other countries.

I'd be curious how the tastes vary between specific countries.

Surely you aren't suggesting that some one do this for a bunch of specific countries ?

I didn't say it was fact. The album sales, chart positions etc are facts. But they are only one component of this as I demonstrate with Sunday Bloody Sunday vs Desire. Perhaps someone would have a different top 10 for the United States. I'd like to see that, and that is part of why I started the thread.

Also, if anyone has an idea for a top 10 most famous U2 songs in another country, that would be interesting. I think it would be really hard to determine that for Ireland, but maybe some of are Irish forum members can do that.

My experience (outside of the U.S) might order them a bit differently.  That would generally be the top ten though.  A replacement I had in mind was Even Better Than The Real Thing for Vertigo.  I'd be going by radio for that.  Although I barely hear either song anymore, I can still recall hearing EBTTRT more recently than I have Vertigo.  I'd then have to drop Bad from the runners up list.

I believe there's an old thread (can' find it ?) with U2's most popular songs on Spotify and it was exactly this list. With Desire, maybe.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

I want to live in a country whose top 10 U2 songs are:

1. Acrobat
2. Zooropa
3. Please
4. Gone
5. Bad
6. A Sort of Homecoming
7. Until the End of the World
8. Running to Stand Still
9. If You Wear that Velvet Dress
10. Mothers of the Disappeared

Find me that country and I'm moving there.
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

I would swap out Mothers for Batman and Please for Mofo, but otherwise i can deal with this list  8)

I would remove UTEOTW and replace it with Ahimsa. At least that song is funny.
