Which Version of The Sweetest Thing do you prefer?

Way back when this song first came to our attention, my mate and I would say how great the song was and how it would likely do well as a stand alone single.

When the single version came out, i did like it the best. But now, thinking about it, the original is my fave version
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

I somehow had never heard the original prior to hearing the updated version.  I can listen to either.  I do prefer the original though.

I am not keen on novelty U2 but if pushed I'd say the original

Agreed.  I missed the Elevation Tour entirely and didn't get it for my i+e shows.  Although I suppose it wouldn't have been the version of the song that the majority know, I was still surprised it wasn't part of the most recent JT concerts.

Original and it's not close. But it may be different if I had heard the remake first. But I doubt it, since Bono's voice is worse on the newer version (which is true generally).

Little did I know at the time but the remake was the start of the decline.  They put out the Best of 1980s as a reaction to the Pop era.  The only thing is the remake didn't sound anything like 1980s U2.

I voted the original. It's super raw but it has more *it*.

I never heard about the remake till 2018. It fixes all the problems with the original, but lost the *it*.

Single. By a mile.

And, if I really had to choose Id go for the live version. It was a great sing along song and it was super nice to have Bono behind the piano.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

Spot on this.

Can pretty much pinpoint the start of the great decline to the 1998 release of this song and its horrible pop veneer/lightweight sound.

The video had the members of Boyzone in it, though, so it was super relevant and bad-ass.
