Best tracks across U2's 'Songs of' era 2013-2017:
« on: February 06, 2021, 08:47:13 PM »
What do you think are the finest tracks across their recently gone 'Songs of' era?

I included 2013.. as 'Ordinary Love' & the Mandela version of 'Breathe' were released in November that year, a few months later 'Invisible' was unveiled in a Super-Bowl advertisement.

Here's what I think:

Every Breaking Wave
Iris (Hold Me Close)
Raised By Wolves
Cedarwood Road
Sleep Like A Baby
Crystal Ballroom
The Troubles

Lights Of Home
Summer Love
Red Flag Day
Landlady
Little Things
Book Of Your Heart

I do think that if you take the best half of each of the "songs of" records, you'd get a damn fine album.

Oh yes, absolutely

i tried to place my list in order of how they might flow on an album, not necessarily in order of favorites

Going in album order:

Raised by Wolves
Sleep Like a Baby Tonight
This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now
The Troubles
The Book of Your Heart

I can leave the rest. Love Is All We Have Left is a decent and somewhat adventurous work, but contextualized, the lyric is a bit cloying. I remember 13 being ok, but that lyric was bad before when it appeared on Songs of Innocence and it was bad when it had to reappear.

My "Innocence-Experience" album would run like this:

1. Lucifer's Hands
2. Cedarwood Road
3. This Is Where You Can Reach Me Now
4. Volcano
5. Red Flag Day
6. The Troubles
7. Sleep Like a Baby Tonight
8. Love Is All We Have Left
9. Book of Your Heart
10. Landlady
11. The Little Things
12. There Is a LIght

And I'd include these as b-sides or bonus tracks of some sort:
The Showman
The Miracle
Summer of Love
Lights of Home (platitude-free edit)
Crystal Ballroom
