Bruce Springsteen - Letter to You

4/5 *

The Bosses first album E-Street album since 2014ís High Hopes which was a little bit of a mixed bag. Iím happy to say Letter To You is a much better offering. The album was recorded live in studio (meaning the band played the songs live together instead of each doing their individual parts) and the album was recorded in under a week at Bruceís home studio.

If their was a running theme to the album itís mortality and aging. The song Ghosts, which is a fun E Street rocker, is about Bruceís friend from his first band when he was in high school who died a few years back making Bruce the only surviving member of that high school band.

What really makes the album interesting is there are a few songs he included that were written before his first album but never released. If I Was The Priest is the song of the year in my opinion. Itís one of the songs he actually played to the record executive to get his first record deal. This 2020 version is stellar. Another older track Song For Orphans is a great song, reminds me of 70ís Dylan.

All in all a triumphant return for Bruce and the E Street band. Still going strong and releasing great material at 71. In one of Adam Claytons latest interviews he said he was really diving into this album. Take some notes Mr. Clayton, thereís still magic to be found in your later years.

I'll probably buy it eventually.  I thought Western Stars was a lovely album.

If he tours with the E Street Band next year I'm going to go and see them if they play arenas.  If they're stadiums then no dice.

The Boss will always rule the airwaves.

I revisited this gem the other day since it just showed up in a YouTube feed.
