Album Elimination Round 14
« on: November 24, 2020, 06:22:13 PM »
So, the song elimination polls are about to be all wrapped up.  The final non-album tracks round should be done in just a few days.  That will not be the last of these polls however.  There are 3 more to go, and they will be a bit different.  They are:

1. U2 Album Elimination

2. U2 Worst of the Worst Elimination

3. U2 Best of the Best Elimination

I will be compiling all the winners of the album-specific elimination rounds and putting them all head-to-head in a best-of elimination poll.  I will also be taking all of the songs that were eliminated first in their respective competitions and pitting them against each other in a reverse elimination round.  For that one, you won't vote for what you think is the worst song there like we have been so far.  Instead, you will vote to eliminate the song you think is best.

These polls will also be run a little bit differently than the previous ones.  In the past, the song with the most votes has been eliminated each time regardless of what percentage of the vote it got.  Some songs were eliminated without getting more than 30% of the vote because of how spread out that vote was.  I didn't want to have to hold run-off votes every time that happened, so I didn't.  This time though, as this is for the final prize, and as I'm perfectly fine with these polls going on for a while, there will be some new policies with regards to how the polls are conducted.

No song can be eliminated unless it wins a majority of votes.  If no song gets a majority in the initial vote, that round will go to a runoff, with the top two songs from each round competing against each other directly.  If there is a tie for second or a multi-way tie for first, then more than two songs may end up in the runoff.

No poll will be called until one of these things is true:
1. At least 30 votes have been cast
2. At least 15 votes have been cast for the leading song
3. A full week has passed since the poll began

A runoff round can be started before 30 votes have been cast if the two leading songs are far enough ahead that they will still be the two leading songs when 30 votes are eventually cast no matter which songs the remaining votes go to.

For the album elimination polls, I also didn't allow people to change their vote, as I didn't want people to be biased and vote for a song they don't actually think is the worst in order to save a song that they like from being eliminated.  However, with the runoff system, that's not a problem, as votes for songs that have no shot of winning the round will not be thrown away.  As a result, you will be allowed to change your vote. (subject to change if I feel this is causing problems, but I don't anticipate that)

So, without further ado, get voting!  Vote for what you think is the WORST album, and the album with the most votes will be removed after each round, eventually giving us a ranking of U2's studio albums.

Ranking:

3. The Unforgettable Fire (57%, 16 votes)
4. Zooropa (62.5%, 15 votes)

My bottom 4 have R&H, HTDAAB, NLOTH and SOE, but I honestly don't know the order.

R&H has a lot of great songs, but I just don't enjoy the album as it is, only the songs individually.
HTDAAB is uninspired and it carries more mediocre/bad tracks than it should, but it's more solid and coherent than some other albums in this list.
NLOTH shows great ideas, but terrible execution, both in sequencing and production, not to mention the lack of integrity to its original purpose.
SOE showcases tight pop songwriting in some tracks, but it's all over the place, it doesn't have an identity and some tracks failed.

I don't know which one to choose.

The one that isn't U2...even though it is.

I've actually heard more from Passengers in concert than I have from any one of the October, Zooropa or Pop albums.

I hope those voting against OS1 are doing so out of principle and not because they truly think it's the worst of the lot.

I gotta go with the new one. U2 hit new platitudinous lows with that junk.
