On the  20th anniversary of Michael Hutchence's death, here's the high point of a decade which was full of them for him and his bandmates.

As with the '90s version of this topic, feel free to share your faves with us.

I'm not really sure what's classed as Alt Rock/New Wave either but here's one band, song and video from the 80's that I love very much:

Talk Talk - Living In Another World (1986) https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9cel9y9Td-s

no, no, yes.

ok, can you clarify what Huey would be? i guess Phil is just pop and DM to me is just synthpop. New wave is like Flock of Seagulls, Culture Club.

Huey always struck me as a very cleaned-up version of bands like the J. Geils Band. Killer harmonies, not too edgy. Pop-rock, I suppose, although that's selling their first couple of albums short.

As for "new wave," that term has kinda a loaded history. The president of Sire Records sent an infamous directive to the marketing division titled, "Don't Call It Punk." Someone there came up with the term, and the rest became history. The first acts who got hit with the label were almost all American: Blondie, Talking Heads, The Cars, and so on. I think the presence of a keyboard player had something to do with who got branded and who didn't.

that makes sense. the keys were what set it apart from just pop rock to me. some of it sounds like disco rock even.

I saw that show too!  Or one on that tour... and I've been to every Throwing Muses tour since... the most recent 3 years ago.  Here's another Throwing Muses clip:

Yay, glad there's another Talk Talk fan here! I think they've always been so underrated, it's a shame.

Here's another song/band from the 80's that I like: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWz0JC7afNQ
