the remixes are quite dreamy and i would be tempted to rate it higher based on them

however going off of the album version it is still a pleasure so i give it an 8

For the time (the operative criterion), it was a solid tune with a bit of a '90s vibe (I believe French Disco was its working title). I gave it a 7.
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

My ratings are by U2 standards.

I award it a 6.

Synthesis songwriting. A little bit of Pride. A little bit of Even Better Than the Real Thing. A little bit of Elevation and boom,,,,we have Magnificent. U2 standards are boring. My ratings are by Beatles standards.

I award it a 10.5.

I like Magnificent quite a bit, should have been the lead single from this record.  9/10

9 and 10s?! Do some of you work for Rolling Stone magazine?  :o
The Edge: ď[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ĎYou know what? Weíre not going to second-guess any of this. Letís just go for it.íĒ

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

scored it a 7. I like the tune, but its not in the top 4 songs on NLOTH, for my taste
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world
