Pride (In the Name of Love) vs Elvis Presley and America
« on: September 07, 2020, 11:06:21 PM »
Testing a theory I put forward in the Unforgettable Fire elimination thread in the wake of Pride's surprising early dismissal.  The results of this will have no effect on the elimination round itself.  I'm curious to see what wins though.

Vote for the BEST song above.

Also, vote changes are allowed if you vote for the wrong one by mistake.

You want me to vote for the best song or my favourite song?

Pride is a U2 top ten song of all time, but it would barely make my top 70.

Those who distinguish between best and favorite, such as yourself, should go with best.

As with the elimination game, I'm more looking to see what people think is the band's best/worst work than what is their personal favorite.

I always thought of Pride as being a dead spot in a U2 set, that is until I went to this concert in London and saw this performance.  Now I understand why U2 will always perform songs like this on every tour.

Elvis Presley is a much better song in that itís priceless...an improvisational one off that probably couldnít be replicated live.  Thousands of versions of Pride have been manufactured by the bandís plant since its first inception.

Great songs like Pride made the band what they are.  The band would have prospered without EPAA.  Without songs like Pride they'd have gone nowhere fast.

Leave me alone with a mic for 5 minutes and I can produce something that could never be replicated live.

Wouldn't be any good though....

Being in a huge crowd all belting the chorus like that is a truly amazing experience.  Best moment of any concert I've ever been to was the second half of Hey Jude when I saw Paul McCartney, the whole crowd joining in on that, will never forget it.

I am referring only to the Studio versions of the song here. Pride would be the better song. However, i prefer EPAA. I dont think I rate many of the mainstream "hits" as highly as the lesser known album tracks.

initially i would have said pride

but my opinion is tainted after watching lackluster performances throughout the years, therefore elvis is a shinier more exotic gem for me
