Where Is U2 When You Really Need Them?
« on: September 03, 2020, 02:27:32 AM »
I need some new U2.  Where are they?

I mean, I know where they are, but where are they musically in this pandemic moment?

Itís the perfect time to release some experimental weirdness, songs from the vault, live Zoom jams, or even a full Zoom concert.

Zoomerang II !

It would be strange if their opportunistic ambitious selves werenít thinking about the moment and working on something, but it would be cool to know if they are and even cooler if they simply dropped something cool out of the blue.

Gotta wait for the upcoming Zoom TV tour.

Well, if that verse is true,
there's hope for me and you.

I'm pretty sure Larry doesn't give a rat's ass and has no involvment at all in this. "Just tell me when I'm needed to bang on things !"
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

I want a new album. But willing to wait for it to be good.

I do not want a Zoom seesion. No.

I assume the vaults are dry - nothing but trash in there other than maybe SOA.

Think about it this way. In the past 6 years, the band have given us 2 new albums, A pile of Re-issues (most well worth having) and have toured 4 times. After the last album, they BADLY need to go and dream it up again

Sure, but the current moment needs a little U2 pick me up.  Just a little EP or an Edge ambient soundtrack side project.  Something.

Iím thinking of whatever album they may have already been conceptualizing being a separate parallel reality track for a possible post-pandemic music future.

Itís the now weíre in that needs something new.

And wouldnít it be nice to have something new to talk about?

A 20th anniversary deluxe re-issue of ATYCLB will have to put you on for the next couple of years.

We got Ahimsa in November but there wasn't much discussion other than "Man, this sucks".

We also just got Bang a Gong, which spurred 1 day of discussion.

Was there anything more to say?  8)

Actually, if they released it today, in the middle of the pandemic, I might think differently about it.  Iím going to give it a listen now.

...

Hmm, weird.  I didnít hate it.  And these lines hit home with new meaning.  Actually, they didnít mean anything the one and only time I listened to it previously.  Itís too bad they mean something now:

ďlíll meet you before the world was born
When we had not a care...Ē

The pandemic and related personal stresses have worn me down considerably.  At least with this listen, it seemed like a nice, well-intentioned, gentle song.  I donít know if Iíll listen to it again, but I enjoyed it.

The live version from December just made me sad, though.  It seems a world away from where we are now and worlds away from singing with a crowd of strangers in the future.
