Guitar sound for Blackout
« on: November 21, 2017, 02:24:38 PM »
Anyone else think this song is missing an ultimate punch? The guitar sounds neutered to me. It would have been much more dramatic had Edge used big distortion (think Zoo TV) write after Bono’s first line when his guitar comes in but instead he uses this thin sound. Thoughts?

I understand why you feel that way, but for my money it sounds a bit more modern and clean (without losing the rock vibe). When it just bridges to the guitar with that phazer (?) going, it sounds awesome to me. That said, I'm sure when played live they'll crank the distortion.

The sound splashes in the very beginning are so promising.  Even Better esque.

Edge's guitar work has been middle of the road now for years unfortunately.

I like his theory on being an anti-guitar hero, but he's taken that to insane levels...

I resent it. Edge has recycled that same fuzzy tone several times over the past few albums.

The album version is clearly acoustic guitar. I would have liked a huge solo but no, they didn't. I expect the guitar to be similar to the music video live

The intro riff akin to Even Better Than The Real Thing should have been longer, it's one of the best things Edge has done in a decade... It's completely useless to make it going for four bars only, it doesn't add anything to the song... I hope live will be stretched out a little bit.

Other than that, I quite like the guitar work, even though the live version is much better regarding this aspect.

I like the harder guitar sound on the live video version. The studio version sounds neutered to me, somehow.
