More great albums.

The Cure, Echo, VH, siouxsie, the list goes on and on.

The cake is taken by Rush - Moving Pictures.

Song - From same album, Limelight

October, of course. Gloria, of course.
I’ve seen for myself, there’s no end to grief, that’s how I know, and why I need to know that there is no end to love

In retrospective, 1981 was the year when New Wave was starting to flame up in North America (The Police, Duran Duran, DM to name a few). And arena rock dinosaurs of the 70’s were still on top of the charts (Foreigner, Journey, VH, Styx, etc...). Really a pivotal year in my view.

Anyways, I’m picking a song that was a bit of an oddity back then, and from a guy that came out of prog rock to go on to international pop star status, no less.

Phil Collins - In The Air Tonight
First Chair. Last Call.

Too many honorable mentions to even begin to list, so I'm not even gonna try. The 3 best songs, from the 3 best albums:

"Pocket Calculator" - Kraftwerk, from Computer World:

"Hear About It Later" - Van Halen, from Fair Warning:

...and finally, the title track from Ozzy's Diary Of A Madman:

p.s. Free Will was on Permanent Waves.

Great song.

Ah I see what I did. My copy of The Visitors contains this as a bonus track but it hadn't seen the light of day when that album was originally released.

Do you guys just remember the songs and albums from those years, or did you have to go and see what songs and albums were released in that specific year?

Albums I almost always remember. Individual songs, I have to make sure about them, especially if they're from an album that came out early in a calendar year. Example: Van Halen's "Jump", which hit radio on the last day of 1983. The album followed like 2 weeks later in a new year.

Some I know and some I would know it was in a few year span. I knew In The Air Tonight was either ‘81 or ‘82 but confirmed it by looking it up.
