Another amazing year.

Album - Simple Minds - New Gold Dream.

Song - Ditto.

Many many HM's.

"Trump supporters are fucking morons"
“Albums still matter,” he said to the crowd of pop star and music luminaries. “Like books and black lives"

1982 might've been the shittiest year of my life, but the music was just killer. First some honorable mentions...

"Atomic Dog" - George Clinton
"Straight To Hell" - the Clash
"Secrets" - Van Halen (my all-time fave VH song)
"Burning Heart" - Vandenberg
"Planet Rock" - Afrika Bambaataa & Soul Sonic Force
"New Gold Dream" - Simple Minds
"Straight Into Darkness" - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers
"Atlantic City" - Bruce Springsteen
"Eminence Front" - The Who
"The Analog Kid" - Rush
"San Jacinto" - Peter Gabriel

I present these 3 songs of the year in alphabetical order:

"Cosmic Cars" by Cybotron

"Hallowed Be Thy Name" by Iron Maiden

and "No Thugs In Our House" by XTC

Album of this year? Probably Peter Gabriel's fourth, which was called Security here in the States, although XTC's English Settlement was right up there with it, and Rush's Signals was another beast of an album.

Tomorrow should be wild fun for me with this. The first 2 Ozzy solo albums both came out in 1981, along with stellar career peaks from Black Flag, Van Halen, Black Sabbath, and the jawdropping return of King Crimson. Add to that Kraftwerk's Computer World and the last great Earth Wind & Fire album, Raise!, and I don't know how I'm gonna keep song of the year below a 4 way tie.

I never took you as a Yaz fan. Is synth-pop another favorite genre of yours?

The Gift is also terrific by the way!

I like synth-pop/synth driven new wave quite a bit, yes, and Alison had a great voice.

Maybe you really should give New Order a shot, then. As THRILLHO recommended in another thread, Power, Lies, and Corruption hits the band right at the crossroads from new wave to full-on synth-pop.

It's had a mention already, my pick would be Straight To Hell by The Clash. Haunting.

Another favourite from a punk band who like The Clash were always more than punk.

Life Goes On by The Damned

And one of The Clash's influences:

I don't mind New Order, decent album that too.
