I've never read this magazine but aren't they known for putting u2 on a pedestal?

Well, yes, I suppose. They were quite friendly to U2 and were criticised by other music mags for it.

was never a fan.

I loved "Sounds" back in the day

"Trump supporters are fucking morons"
“Albums still matter,” he said to the crowd of pop star and music luminaries. “Like books and black lives"

I liked the mag and read it quite a lot in the 1990s and 2000s.

Was OK in it's pomp - which was around 1996-2004.

I never forgave them though for in their review of ATYCLB comparing Hellevation to The Breeders Cannonball....

Here I was a massive Breeders fan and someone who loved Cannonball, awaiting u2's follow up to Pop (I was a really, really big u2 fan at the time) and a review in a mag i liked made that comparison.....That was like a promise off a really hot girl, only to end up with getting nothing off the plainest Jane!

I recall buying it in 1989 because Michael Hutchence was on the cover talking about his Max Q project, and again in 1992 to read an interview with U2 in Tacoma while on the Zoo TV tour which I recall reading on the train down to London.

Oooh... Max Q ! « Way of the World », hands down, Michael Hutchence’s best song ever.
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

This magazine put U2 on the pedestal, but at the same time for me it was always incomprehensibly harshly criticized by Duran Duran ...

Not sure what you mean...Duran Duran criticised Q magazine or Q criticised them?

I'm back!

(not been unwell, just on a break)

I think Bono had some 'kind words' in the penultimate issue.  Q promoted U2, when other people pilloried them. Bono repays the favour. And probably will do in the final edition.

You got to do what you should.
