An absolutely epic year.

Running through these really reinforces how much better the 80s were than the 90s and beyond.

Tough call on Album, but going with Big Country's The Crossing.

As for song, going with The Trooper by Iron Maiden.

HM's - Too many to list, but obviously SBS, In a Big Country and many many more.

It goes without saying that THE song that defined the year for me was SBS. As was the album. Life changing.

But as JT mentions, what an epic year! I consider myself privileged to have experienced it as I was finishing high school and music meant everything. It was a very exciting period.

Album: Porcupine - Echo and The Bunnymen.

They may have ended up shite but between 80 and 84, those first 4 albums they were imperious.

Gonna give the song 'award' to Prince for 1999....was just such a great song and jumped off the radio at me!

Like JT said, an epic year for music, specifically hard rock.

Album of the Year: Def Leppard - Pyromania

Very hard choice. Iron Maiden’s Piece of Mind is one of the best metal albums ever. War saw U2 arrive as a major player. Crue’s Shout at the Devil is epic. Went with Pyromania as every song is strong. To bad Def Leppard lost their balls after this album as they were a really good hard rock band early in their career.

Runner Ups:

Iron Maiden - Piece of Mind
Motley Crüe - Shout At the Devil
U2 - War
The Police - Syncronicity

Song of the Year: Iron Maiden - The Trooper

Runner Ups:

U2 - New Years Day
The Police - King of Pain
David Bowie - China Girl
Def Leppard - Photograph

Definitive U2 Top 10: 1. One, 2. Bad, 3. With Or Without You, 4. Running to Stand Still, 5. So Cruel, 6. Ultraviolet, 7. I Still Haven’t Found What I’m Looking For, 8. Hawkmoon 269, 9. Red Hill Mining Town, 10. Luminous Times
