I've been very critical of U2 lately and this is my attempt at shining a positive light on their latest work...

For years, I have been saying to myself that, as long as U2 were able to put songs that I love, I'd stick up with them.

What are the songs from that period that you absolutely love (as in personal taste, so totally subjective), no matter the state of affairs with the band during that timeframe.

My pick :
The Ground Beneath Her Feet
Stuck in a moment you can't get out of
In a little while
No Line on the horizon
Moment of surrender
Soon
Being Born
Cedars of Lebanon
The troubles
Book of your heart
Love is all we have left
Lights of home (strings)
A dangerous idea that almost makes sense...

MDH/ATYCLB:

Never Let Me Go
Stateless

NLOTH:

Disappearing Act
No Line On the Horizon
Moment Of Surrender
Fez ó Being Born
White As Snow
Cedars Of Lebanon

SOI:

Sleep Like a Baby Tonight

SOE:

The Book Of Your Heart

Those are the ones I love. There are a few more decent or even good songs, but interestingly, there are more post-Pop U2 songs that I love than ones I only moderately enjoy. That's not a testament to the band's quality of output, though. U2 either delivers a great, mature track every now and then or throws a slew of pop platitudes at the wall to find that none of them stick.

The answer is not many - but that exclusive little club does contain these gems.

Stateless

Disappearing Act (gonna count it as was finished post 90's)

Never Let Me Go (gonna be kind and count this although it is not u2, it is Bono and The MDH band, which contains no other u2 members)

Sleep Like a Baby Tonight

Cedars of Lebanon

I was going to add Crystal Ballroom to mine as I seemed to remember I liked it. Then I listened to it today and decided I didn't.

It really is a very good song. I also enjoy the remix. Only let down by shorty singing 'The air is heavy, heavy as a truck'. I presume he means the air is kind of humid, and oppressive, as air is often like that before a storm. However, I can't help thinking comparing it to a truck, won't win him any literary prizes.

Willy

he didn't even specify what type of truck either, did he?

could have been a fire truck, dump truck, or a small pickup truck

guess either way it is heavy

it's like when people compare things to the moon, but forget to say it's a full moon, harvest moon, blood moon, etc.

just literally wears me the hell out  >:(

Exactly.

It could also have been a toy truck. That being the case, the comparison doesn't work at all.

It really does pay to think these things through properly.

I agree.

On a side note: itís the favorite of my 26 yo daughter. Mostly a casual fan because of me, but she knows more about the bandís songs than just the usual suspects of hits.
