Forgive me for being a bit of a chauvinist here, but in no way can I honestly not nominate Arcade Fire for 2004. Their debut album was such a massive phenomenon in my neck of the woods, it would be blasphemous not to mention it.

The song Iím choosing is Rebellion (Lies). I think it showcases the band in all its glory, above all the others on the phenomenal Funeral album.

(Fun fact: on the Vertigo Tour, U2 came on stage to the sound of another classic from the album, Wake Up.)

This is an amazing live rendition of Rebellion (Lies) from 2007.

First Chair. Last Call.

This is ridiculous...first off, big ups to Jimmy Eat World's "Work" and Muse's "Ruled By Secrecy," "Apocalypse Please," and "Hysteria." It's killing me to leave them off (especially RBS and Work), but this is gonna be a messy 3-way tie as it is, hahahahahahahahahaha.

Mastodon - "Blood And Thunder"

U2 - "City Of Blinding Lights"

and Nightwish's "Nemo"

I've got a feeling I'm gonna be posting a lot of metal these next couple of weeks.  🤘🤘

2004....hmmm. Not a year that instantly brings to mind masses of great stuff.

Some highlights for me:

PJ Harvey released Uh Huh Her in 04 and The Desperate Kingdom of Love is the standout from it for me.

The self titled debut by Kasabian was a very decent listen - from it Club Foot and L.S.F. were strong.

Another self titled debut from Franz Ferdinand was one of 04's best - I see it has already had a shout for Take me Out, i'll echo that and add Jacqueline and The Dark of The Matinee.

I am not a fan of The Killers really but Hot Fuss was a really good listen and I really like Jenny Was a Friend of Mine from it.

The Libertines released their 2nd album - called The Libertines and I liked Can't Stand Me Now from it.

Interpol gave us Antics in 04 and Evil is a standout from it.

But for me the album i enjoyed most in 2004 was released by Melissa Auf der Maur 'Auf der Maur' and from it my best song of 2004 is the thrilling FOLLOWED THE WAVES
I could have gone with Lightning is My Girl or My Foggy Notion but Followed the Waves is the one.

Followed the Waves - Melissa Auf der Maur.

Don't you think adding SIAMYCGOO to an already desperate album is just cruel!?

Not as cruel as you saying that... :)

For me, 2004 was all about the greatest neo-punk album of all time. Green Day's American Idiot. Jesus of suburbia. We are the waiting. Novacaine. St Jimmy. Wake me up when september ends.

Velvet Revolver's "Fall to Pieces" is another one that stands out for me.
