Just had an interesting live concert experience, may be a model of things to come.
Joe Bonamassa, a great rock/blues guitarist in the vein on Page, Clapton, SRV with some Hendrix sprinkled in just had a live streaming PPV concert yesterday from the Ryman Auditorium. We had seen him in person several times and my wife is a big fan. There was no audience, but depending on the package you purchased, you could take a picture of yourself (oh, I guess that would be a selfie), they print it out life size version and place it in one of the seats. (we got this package) So her is what $100 got her for her birthday.
- Live Streaming Concert with live debut of his new album played in full
- Access to all his recorded concerts free for 1 year streaming
- Free digital download of new album upon release on October
- Picture of my wife in one of the seats at the Ryman for the show
- Picture of Joe with the audience
- Name listed in credits at end of show
- Name in credits of the DVD of the show
- DVD copy of show
- Of course a concert T-shirt
At the end of the show, while the credits were running, Joe (probably prerecorded) walks thru the "crowd" making comments, observations as well as talking about the charity that $1 of every ticket goes to for up and coming artists. As he was doing this (ended up being a bonus for my wife) he ends up sitting next to her picture in the seat, so that was pretty cool, hopefully immortalized on the DVD, but at least it will be on the streaming versions.
It was a very cool experience, the show was very, very good. They didn't pipe in any crowd noise, so it went basically silent between songs while they changed up guitars etc. I think for $100, it was well worth it. It did not, however, replace an in person experience, but they did give us a lot for $100 imo.
