Bitter Sweet Symphony- The Verve

Very close second: Building a Mistery- Sarah Mclachlan

Nothing especially interesting from U2 that I can recall.

Another belting year....

Of course we had Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop Pop music from u2.....Mofo, Miami, DYFL et al - all great.

OK Computer from Radiohead includes gems like Lucky, Airbag, Paranoid Android.

Homogenic by Bjork gave us Bachelorette.

Portishead and their self titled album gave us All Mine and Only You

The Attack of The Grey Lantern by Mansun gave us Wide Open Space, She Makes My Nose Bleed and Stripper Vicar.

Dig Your Own Hole by The Chemical Brothers included gems like Block Rockin' Beats and Elektrobank.

The Fat of The Land - The Prodigy gave us Breathe.

So many others too - a great year.

But in my book everything released that year has to take a back seat to an album that still to this day is in heavy rotation at An Tha Towers:

Dig Me Out - Sleater Kinney.

This album never ceases to floor me, i'd argue it is top 5 of all time by anybody.

From it i could pick any number of songs - from the urgent and catchy as hell opener and title track Dig Me Out to the just glorious Little Babies...One More Hour is the best break up song i have ever heard especially as the two people who broke up are the ones singing it!

I'm going with the albums big emotional stunner though....

The best song of 1997 in my book is, this masterpiece....."Jenny" by Sleater Kinney.

I was trolling the Pop-squad.  ;)

I’m actually picking as it felt for me during that year. I was not very fond of Pop when it came out, but it has grown a great deal over the years. Please and Gone are 2 of my all-time favorites.
