Bit soft for my liking
« on: November 18, 2017, 11:26:23 AM »
This drip fed album campaign I mean. Makes me miss the days of one single and then... Bang. New album.

Whilst the previous campaign gave the band a backlash that overshadowed the music, we at least had a full album to explore and digest. I've listened to the first three this time and have now drawn a line and not listened to American Soul. How do you feel?

At this point, release a song a day to countdown the album.

Old School all the way.

Makes me wonder why they bother with the album format anymore if they're not going to treat it with the reverence it deserves.

Maybe it'll be from footage they shot at Trafalgar Square as Bono said they were shooting the song a 2nd time and wanted the audience to hold up placards for a video they were making.

I'd like them to just release the album in one time. If that's the case, then I'm not overanalysing every single song, but just the album as a whole. The 'song liking' should come after the 'album liking'. That's the way I listen to music. It makes songs most of the times better, by the way. So it's gonna be alright  :)

That's the iTunes/Spotify age for you. And it's probably the reason behind putting the CD redemption option for ticket sales.

I don't mind the new method too much. If I don't want to hear 1 or 2 of the 4 new songs that come out before an album, I just won't listen. The album comes out when it does and I usually wait until then before hearing most of it anyway. If it were like it was in the past, we'd probably only just be hearing the first single since the dates didn't change anyway.

I'm old fashioned. I like the build up and queuing up to get the album. I've tried to stay away from the songs so far and any reviews. I want to listen to it fresh all in one go. Does the album market even really exist anymore with just being able to download singles you like one by one?

I certainly feel the releasing of the album in dribs and drabs has totally killed the excitement of a new u2 release. BUT...at the same time, it has prepared me for the disappointment i anticipate the new album to be.
All things considered, id prefer it like the old days

I remember the radio stations played pretty much all The Joshua Tree in the week before its release, so even 30 years ago it was possible to get an album drip-fed before release.  I think I'd heard 9 of the 11 TJT songs before it came out.

I don't like hearing half of the album weeks before the album gets released.  Want some surprises.

This album could end up being the U2 equivalent of Baldrick's turnip surprise.
