hit songs that bands turns their backs on later

so per the DYFAM thread, what other artists hate playing their biggest <at the time anyways> hit?

Radiohead ignored Creep after the Bends tour, until 2009 and only played it ocassionaly.

Nirvana hated SLTS and would play half the song or play it "sarcasically"

Beastie Boys changed up the lyrics to most of the Licensed To Ill songs or dropped them entirely.

Is that all?  Little more than snippets on 360.

Fact. Not even a handful of times they played that one.

Granted for the snippets. My point is that it was not forgotten as much as others.

Two Hearts seems a better candidate for the question here.

Billy Joel abandoned his biggest hit "My Life" by the Nylon Curtain tour. He was asked about that decision sometime around 1990, and he summed it up like this: "Sometimes your kid grows up to be a doctor, sometimes your kid grows up to be a bum. That song grew up to be a bum."

I don't know if Heart ever dumped "Magic Man," but when Ann and Nancy were on an episode of That Metal Show, her expression left no doubt about how she felt about singing that song every night when the subject came up. Just say she's not a fan.

Perhaps my fave story on this matter was Phil Collins explaining why they weren't doing "Abacab" on the 2007 reunion tour. He said they ran through it on one of the first days of rehearsal, and as each line of the lyrics came up on the teleprompter, he just kept asking himself "what the fuck was I going on about there?" Needless to say, it didn't make the cut.   🤣

It's midnight here; got one or two more that I'll post about tomorrow. 'night, all.

Rush stopped playing Fly By Night in the late '70s because Geddy Lee was unable to sing that high consistently anymore IIRC.

Not many in the early 1990s, I suspect.
