Billy Joel abandoned his biggest hit "My Life" by the Nylon Curtain tour. He was asked about that decision sometime around 1990, and he summed it up like this: "Sometimes your kid grows up to be a doctor, sometimes your kid grows up to be a bum. That song grew up to be a bum."
I don't know if Heart ever dumped "Magic Man," but when Ann and Nancy were on an episode of That Metal Show, her expression left no doubt about how she felt about singing that song every night when the subject came up. Just say she's not a fan.
Perhaps my fave story on this matter was Phil Collins explaining why they weren't doing "Abacab" on the 2007 reunion tour. He said they ran through it on one of the first days of rehearsal, and as each line of the lyrics came up on the teleprompter, he just kept asking himself "what the fuck was I going on about there?" Needless to say, it didn't make the cut. 🤣
It's midnight here; got one or two more that I'll post about tomorrow. 'night, all.
