The musical and Lyrical significance of Passengers
« on: April 22, 2020, 12:08:48 AM »
Ok , this has nothing to do with my name tag  8)

I would like genuine discussion as to what you felt when you heard passengers..............

For me , spacey another place familiar sounds and voices yet different , interdimensional and yet still talking to me in that place that only U2 can talk to me.....

to borrow a quote "the fifth member and what a member...."

this is more of an Eno album than a U2 album , and yet it is unique on its own.

Not sure what the lyrical significance of the album is as there are very few lyrics.  I think October has 5x as many.
I find the album to be a cool little secret of a side project what might be the extant of it's value.  There are two or three good songs on it which i think is good considering how experimental the album was and knowing how good the band was during this era creatively.
I have mixed feelings on the band trying to claim Miss Sarajevo and Your Blue Room as their own after the fact and i'm sure most casual fans don't even know that the album exists at all or that those songs are attributed to a group called Passengers and not U2.

I went to one of those record stores where you could listen to the CD before you buy it (they had heaps of U2 imports and bootlegs and stuff). I listened to OS1 when it was released and pretty much only liked the songs with lyrics (Your Blue Room, Slug, etc.). I bought it, but only came to appreciate the other instrumental tracks much later on.
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

Slug is exceptional.  I had OS1 somewhere in my collection but it seems to have vanished.  Might seek it out again.

I think the first place i ever heard Miss Sarajevo was on MTV - i didn't know what the hell it was until a friend of mine said "that's u2"

We were totally floored because we were already anticipating the *next big u2 album* when this happened.

In digging through my cassette collection (yeah I said  it) I too came across some classic U2 bootlegs from war and UF era and of course my double vinyl of U2 in Cork for the JT tour , then I found it........OS1 ! I had already downloaded it on the phone but for old times I stuck it in the vintage walkman..........epic................took me to yet another place......not a U2 record but let's agree to perhaps a cousin to POP ...
