What album in your collection was recorded earliest?
« on: November 15, 2017, 11:20:51 AM »
Just in the process of (once and for all) digitising my CD collection. My library confirms that The Velvet Underground & Nico is my earliest recorded album, being 50 years old this year.

This makes sense, as so much of my favourite music can be traced back to the experimentation of TVU. So whilst I stream older tracks and have compilations e.g. Kinks that recorded earlier stuff. TVU seems the most appropriate place to begin in terms of studio albums.

How about you? They may be physical or digital but it would be great to hear of any original vinyl pressings.

Im guessing the oldest aged album in my collection, would be my copy of The Beatles first album. Not that it is an original.....its a CD copy, bought around 1996, although the album itself is 55 years old

Dave Brubeck's Time Out and Miles Davis' Kind of Blue were both released in 1959, which appears to be the earliest in my library. It was an amazing year for jazz!

I would have to double check, but off the top of my head I have a Fats Domino record "This is Fats Domino" released in 1956.
I feel my luck could change.

Probably Duke Ellington At Newport - that was what, 1956?

I mean, I have some compilation albums like Faron Young and  Bo Diddley best-of where at least some of the songs were recorded earlier than that. Would any of those count?

I'll have to check out some of my classical albums on various formats. The CD versions would, of course, be reissues of official studio albums.

I've got a lot of early Sinatra albums.  Bing Crosby, Perry Como, and a bunch of early jazz and swing era albums. Gilberto, Brubeck, Rollins, Billie Holiday, etc.
