I love the live version of Silver and Gold on Rattle and Hum, but didn't really care for the version on the "Best Of" cd. Anyone else?

Live is where it lives. "Play the blues, Edge" even though it's as far from the blues as you can get haha.
The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

Yeah, that's not one of the brightest things our Bono has ever said!
But, yes, this song was meant to be played live.

Some people prefer the studio - iirc, Smee does?

But I think they improved the studio rough take into a great song.

I'm actually not sure I've heard any performance other than the one that made R&H though.

I prefer the studio version.
Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

There are a few from the last leg of the Joshua Tree tour (87).

There’s even one where Exit segues into S&G.

Yeah...i much prefer the studio version of the song. I like the tempo more. The live version sounds so rushed.

I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

I like both.  I'd give the nod to the live version on R&H though.

S&G from R&H is one of the first memories that come up when thinking about the film.

Oof. I actually have a hard time choosing favorites, most of the time. I have to go with both, I think I get equal pleasure out of hearing either one. One of my favorites!
