U2 has lost my son
« on: February 21, 2020, 09:48:30 AM »
With SOI and then SOE, my son has really been put off U2 due to the more mainstream poppyness of much of these two albums.  He also say The Edge is too predictable and sounds the same al the time.

He knows TJT and most of the 00's stuff, but I was really surprised to learn how he was now dismissing them.  Any ideas on how to bring him back into the fold, expose him to the likes of PoP or other less U2y albums, or will he grow out of it?  (He's almost 17)

Leave him be and let him find his own musical path.

Lock him in a closet with AB and POP. He'll come around...

Dad is that you?   ;)

I suppose I am a bit put off by them as well. Of course when I listen to the golden era stuff then all is good

Leave him be and let him find his own musical path.

Fair enough, he's not that much into, and never really has been into much with "rock" music anyway.  He like Supertramp, Rush, a little LZ and Sting, but that's really about it.  His go to is mostly classical, Big Band/Swing, and, what drive me nuts, video game theme music rerecorded with real instruments.  Go figure.

I am with an tha....i would let him plot his own course in his musical journey. Just be thankful that you have at least a bit of a u2 connection in common with him.

I've always taken the view that if they ask what you are playing tell them and if a conversation develops from there then great......one of the many beauties of the way music is accessible now is that they tend to then go off and seek stuff out online as it is so easy and quick to do and things can grow from there....

In my view 'hey lad come and listen to this' just does not work (for want of a better phrase)

As for video games - they are really influential.

My kid plays Minecraft stuff on her kazoo.

And I am just thankful that she likes any U2 at all.
