The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

Yes.
When you guys get older, you might understand. But, since most of you are stubborn-ass men, probably not.  :)

Id say that most of the perceived criticism, comes from an honest place. Its just that u2 set the bar so high in the past and many many fans feel the band under deliver these days. While i can appreciate and enjoy most of what u2 puts out (id say about 95% of it I happily listen to) for me, there is definitely a very clear drop in quality of material this past 20 years. In the 80s and 90s, u2 sounded like nobody else. Now, I cant say that with the same belief
BUT, nothing last forever. I do think many fans are too demanding of the band and in my world...it is healthy to not blindly follow anything. It is healthy to be able to question things.

If I slam a glass down "too hard" it may break.

If I criticize my kid "too hard" she may stop trusting me or her self esteem may break.

If I ride the clutch "too hard" on my car - ah, I wish.

What is the consequence of being "too hard" on U2? Will they break?

No they won’t.  They have excellent healthcare and love what they do.

Of course people here are being too hard on U2. Sometimes it seems like this is site that was really created by Henry Rollins to attack U2.

I think the band are doing fantastic, and the music of the 00s is some of the best music I have ever heard in my life by any artist. The band are just as good live as they were back in 1992.

In general, the band are right where they should be and I look forward to the next album and tour.
