I worked out to SOI this morning (and still love the entire thing, by the way) and realized again what an incredible song SLABT is...the lyric are so intense...the guitar work just amazing.

One of their best these past twenty years.  No other artist would create such a song.

An absolute gem of a song.

Not so sure about the 'no other artist would create such a song' shout, but it is a great song and it shows what u2 can still do when they step away from the middle of the fucking road

Any suggestions of artists who would?

I could believe maybe somebody else would tackle the subject, though I can't think of anyone who has.

But they did it in just the most U2 way that nobody else would. It's righteous (in the right way), overflowing with compassion AND irony, manages to get at the heart of a particular issue in a relatively succinct way. Like SBS, it stands right in your face and gives it to you straight.

The cracked voice coming down from the falsetto also seems uniquely U2, not that nobody else cracks their voice but it was just a U2 thing. It's perfect imperfection, heart-on-sleeve like few else can do.

And as I mentioned yesterday, the solo absolutely drips with sarcasm.

Hard to believe SFS and SLABT are created by the same group of humans, let alone on the same album.......

“Albums still matter,” he said to the crowd of pop star and music luminaries. “Like books and black lives"

And of course that's rather important.
