Soon - brilliant song and missed opportunity
« on: February 09, 2020, 04:12:04 PM »
Such a brilliant song, deserves more love and should have been NLOTH's opener.

The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

Fez:BB should have been the album's opener.

We're talking Soon. Fez:BB can make its own thread! Soon needs a rework and more of that catchy chorus though.

Says a lot about modern day u2 that this does not make the album and crazy tonight does.

I bet they considered Fez as an opener. Maybe thought it would be too predictable for U2.

Sorry, Cat.

They were saving Soon for Songs of Ascent.  It probably won't even make that now, they'll want to start from scratch (if they ever finish SoA). :(

Nah, Fez feels like a Side B opener, mid-album feels right.

A rich and obese little birdie told me that SONGS OF ASCENT is currently being made,  and that SONGS OF ASCENT will be the best U2 album since the multiple GRAMMY winning masterpiece HOW TO DISMANTLE AN ATOMIC BOMB

Naturally i don't always believe what the rich and obese little birdie tells me,  as he/she can be quite hysterical at times and often doesn't make good sense.

Like the time the rich and obese little birdie ate too much birthday cake,  a delicious cake i might add,  with lavender colored whipped cream icing that turned his/her poop a shocking shade of violet.

Or the time he/she spoke of their cousins,  who were afraid of heights,  so they built their nest near the ground and were surprised to find themselves victims of a feral cat.  These cousins were offspring of parents who had a fear of flying,  therefore they never left their own nest and eventually died of starvation.  Birdbrains,  all of them!

Anyway back on topic.  I think Soon is quite a gem.  It would be the opener on my version of NO L INE ON THE HOR I ZON,  if i had my way.  The middle disaster / train wreck would be deleted from the album,  and i would replace with 'Mercy'.  It would be the greatest thing since  sliced bread.

I can think of rich people linked to the band who could leak news to Phoenix Rising, but not obese. Unless McGuinness let himself go?

Goddamn that Soon chorus sticks in your head and makes you hum it...

I created a hybrid of Soon --> Being Born for the opening track on my SOA playlist (in my alt U2-niverse the band is still really good).

Listen as Hope and Peace try to rhyme,
Listen over marching bands playing out their time.

Something of a lost song/single that gives a tantalising glimpse of what might have been. I really like it and wonder if it really is the sound of Songs of Ascent or just a quick studio off cut that they reused. Has a very Unforgettable Fire-y feel to it.

Feels very Zooropa, has a similar guitar to Stay (same one?).

Exile, have you uploaded your mix online? Love to hear it!
