Defining songs for artists
« on: February 07, 2020, 10:07:42 PM »
What do you think is/will be the ONE song people will remember these rock artists for? Not asking about your faves, but what culture sees as their defining work. Like I'm not even going to ask about Nirvana - Teen Spirit obvs.

The Rolling Stones
REM
The Police
The Beatles
David Bowie
Led Zeppelin
Bon Jovi
Pearl Jam
The Who
The Cure
Foreigner
Pink Floyd
Green Day
WINNER: Thread of the YEAR (Serious Awards)

As far as The Cure goes....id have thought Boys Dont Cry was their best known tune?
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

I'd have said probably Friday I'm in Love - nowhere near their best of course from a superb career but i would say probably most well known/biggest commercial hit.
I know you are here to kill me. Shoot, coward, you are only going to kill a man

There's obviously only a few replies but here is where it stands.

Uncontested
Rolling Stones - Satisfaction
REM - Losing My Religion
Led Zeppelin - Stairway to Heaven
Bon Jovi - Livin" on a Prayer
Radiohead - Creep (only 1 vote but I suspect this will remain)

Landslide
The Cure - Pictures of You (but Boys Don't Cry and Friday I'm in Love mentioned)
The Police - Every Breath You Take (but Roxanne also mentioned)
The Beatles - Hey Jude (but She Loves You and Lonely Hearts also mentioned)
Pink Floyd - Brick Part 2 (but Money also mentioned)
The Who - Won't Get Fooled Again (but My Generation and Love Reign O'er Me also mentioned)

Debated
David Bowie - Space Oddity, Heroes
Foreigner - I Want to Know What Love Is, Jukebox Hero
Pearl Jam - Even Flow, Better Man, Alive
Green Day - only 3 votes but 2 are for Basket Case and 1 for Good Riddance
WINNER: Thread of the YEAR (Serious Awards)
