Music artists that were once good, at least for a short time?
« on: February 04, 2020, 11:02:03 AM »
Who were the artists you no longer enjoy, but admit liking some of their music, at some point in your life?

Oasis: Great for the first 2 albums. The 3rd started sounding a bit the same. After that.....i have no interest in them.
Coldplay: EXACT same carry on as Oasis
Kings Of Leon: I liked a couple of their songs a few years back but now, wouldnt care if i never heard their music ever agian.
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

Oasis has never put out a bad album.  Liam and Noel have never put out a bad solo album.

Simple Minds were truly AWESOME for their first 5 or so albums. The next 3 or so were good. I lost interest in them after that. I listen in to some of their tunes done since...but nah.....I really dont need to hear anything from them, after 1993

Trashcan Sinatras - Good first couple of albums then kind of went to sleep.

Most REM after Green. Up till then were a 'must'.

I liked some Kiss for a few minutes.

Stone Roses/Madchester - A few songs here and there but mostly meh.

Oasis did get waaaay worse after their first two albums, but they always had 1 or 2 good songs on the albums after, same with Noel's solo stuff.  Dead in the Water by him is as good as their early stuff imo.

Dave Matthews Band--I listened to "Under the Table and Dreaming" and "Crash" a lot, but after these albums I lost interest in the band.
Coldplay--I had Parachutes, but didn't bother with much of their music after that.
Matchbox 20--I really liked the first album until my neighbor in college played it every single day multiple times a day.

the only thing wrong with BHN is how bloated EVERY song is. there is a decline after that, yes, but Dig Out Your Soul is solid. As for Dead in the Water, thats ok but def not as good sa even the debut solo album.

DMB's first three <apparently the 3rd is now considered the best of his?> were GREAT, then Everyday shit the bed. Busted Stuff was good and Groo Grux king was a great return to form. the rest ain't worth a listen.

Barenaked Ladies

I liked Gordon and Born on A Pirate Ship, then they came out with “One Week” and ever since I was turned off by the band.

I think Be Here Now has a few duds even without the bloated factor.  Magic Pie, for example.  Songs like All Around the World and D'You Know What I Mean were ruined by the production and being so overlong.  I will say though, Stand By Me, while quite long, juuust gets away with it imo, I think Don't Go Away is perfect as-is, D'You Know What I Mean's 2016 re-edit with the better production and a verse cut out is pretty great, and the B-side Stay Young is fantastic.

I remember getting BHN when it was released and listened to it thinking I should like this, why don't I like it?  It's Oasis, I should like it.  Surely it's awesome, surely it's just me who doesn't get it.  But yeah, it was shite.  Druggie music.  I always liked Stand By Me and It's Getting Better, Man.

This is turning into an Oasis thread but...
After the first two albums they stopped making singles for every song.
BHN was ruined by the death of Lady Di a week after it was released and that moment marked the end of Brit-Pop and the second British Invasion.  Yeah the songs were a bit bloated, but they were still great, just not singles.
SOTSOG was definitely a step backwards but still has great tracks on it.
Heathen Chemistry is where the band noticeably changes their style and starts to actually rock.  Think this is the most underrated/forgotten album they have.  Lost of great tunes and their B-sides at this point are still above most other band's A-sides.
DBTT- considered by many to their last masterpiece.  I rank it 5th, but still a lot of classics.  Sounds more 70's rock.
DOYS- my least favorite album but one that others seem to like.  too psychedelic for me.
