Thanks An Tha for putting this on our news site so quickly.

This is a fairly strong statement - it accuses her of making a Faustian pact with the military to prevent her own arrest - a quite possible scenario. However I think it falls short in stating that U2 and U2 fans were wrong to support her, while not mentioning governments. The US (Obama and Bush), UK (Blair, Brown, Cameron), France (Chirac, Hollande, Sarkozy) and others all share blame here. It’s time to re-freeze Myanmar and punish the military

Quite a strong statement.  I suspect she may have a puppet sort of leadership role and is well aware of what she's up against.

I think U2 have done this right, despite criticism that they should have made statements earlier. They've taken the time to repeatedly reach out to ASSK and understand what is happening, exploring all angles, rather than quickly jumping aboard a bandwagon.

Very sad to read this though and I can't imagine what it felt like for Bono to sign this off.

Perfect response from U2. Thoughtful, measured, razor sharp.
The Edge: “[Eno] would love to see us making albums a bit more like [Zooropa]. Where we go, ‘You know what? We’re not going to second-guess any of this. Let’s just go for it.’”

U2 Fans: We'd all love to see that, Edge.

I never wore the mask.

Not political. It was just too naff even for my lowbrow tastes

The cork hat would have ruined the effect anyway.

I refused at the time to put on the mask, too.  Just seemed super weird to me.  Also that chant thing they did during the tour was something I decided to abstain from.  I would make a bad cult member.

Were you not worried that B would find out and be angry with you?  That it would make him sad and cry?  That he might have to find ways to punish you?
