Strong rumour last year there'll be a new album with a worldwide farewell tour (the traditional big U2 tour, that is) over 3 years with a final album released during the tour. But it all depends on the schedules of 213 producers required to work on every song.
I'm think now early 2022 with the album bundled with tickets for the new tour again. It will make hitting #1 with the album easier than it would be if it was released near Christmas in November/December 2021 when the album release schedule can often get crowded. I also think the impact of Christmas on sales, which would be primarily physical albums as gifts is too low now to be that relevant.

When the Rolling Stones were at the current stage of U2's career, there was a gap of eight years between albums, but in between that time there was a compilation album with some new songs and a tour. I predict U2 will do likewise.
