I see IDLES will be supporting them

If ever there was a perfect example of the support blowing the main act off the stage that will be it.

I doubt that since Pearl Jam is one of the greatest music artist of all time. I've never even heard of a music artist named "IDLES".

I am not surprised you haven't heard of them, they are a new British band who have broken through over last year or so.

Their latest album 'Joy as an act of Resistance'  (i know you put a lot of stock in accolades) was one of the most decorated albums of recent years when it comes to music publications over here

Duh. Because it's not out.

I can only judge them on their body of work to date.

They peaked with Vs.

I thought Pearl Jam were finished, many moons ago. In my whole life, i only ever knew of one person, who was a fan. I myself know nothing about them and could only name one song of theirs.
In the garden I was playing the tart
I kissed your lips and broke your heart
You
You were acting like it was the end of the world

Always got impression they were big in America - not so much over here.

Not really familiar with much of their work myself.

During the years 1993, 1994, and 1995, they were the most popular music artist in the United States. Their first three albums, Ten, Vs. and Vitalogy were massively popular. But by August 1996, and the release of the new album "No Code", the band lost about 80% of their fans. The band continued to have decent sales, but were no longer posting mega boy band figures when it came to album sales in the United States.

I think they have a strong following overseas, but never experienced mega popularity overseas like they did in the United States in 1993-1995.

The point was that you might change your mind about them peaking with Vs after Gigaton is released.

They certainly rode the grunge waive. But that waive eventually died in the mid-90's...

Never say never in anything but how many bands release records that create a new high mark for them 30 years into their careers and when they are nearly 60?

My guess would be very, very few....

As of January 14th 2020, they peaked with Vs.

I'll give Gigaton a listen on Spotify and let you know if Vs. is still their peak.

After it's released of course.

Well, what determines whether or not an artist has achieved a new high mark?

01. Individuals opinions of the album, but this will vary from person to person.

02. Music journalist, critics, awards etc.

03. Level of popularity based on sales, airplay, streaming etc.
