The Last Jedi must be a terrific film if the finished product can convince Disney to entrust Rian Johnson with an entire new trilogy.

It's crazy how starkly my opinion on the franchise has changed from when Lucasfilm was bought out to now. This is the best time to be a Star Wars fan... it hasn't yet been rehashed to death, though is still a commonality and something to look forward to each year.

so i'm thrilled that he's doin a new original trilogy and im WAY more thrilled it wont be more Skywalker stuff. i hope it doesnt shoe horn in OT characters though. i want a literal new trilogy. like, make it about the original jedi v. sith stuff.

That'd be cool. Disney seems to avoid the prequels like a disease, though, so I wouldn't be surprised if we got something coinciding or following either the Original or Sequel Trilogies instead.

As long as they keep the quality up and the stories interesting then I'm all for it. It's so refreshing after the mediocre prequels to finally have Star Wars back in competent hands again. Episode VII was great (if a bit too derivative) and I think Rogue One is the best Star Wars film since Return of the Jedi. I'm all for a new trilogy if they can keep this up.

already mentioned it on another thread, but i think the plan to release a new SW film every year is going to backfire.

How so? Artistically or monetarily?

They're exhausting the characters and telling stories that don't need to be told.  The whole point of the starting ANH with a random episode number is because it was paying homage to the old adventure serials and throwing us right into the middle of an on-going story.  We don't need to be shown every event that has been mentioned, and we don't need to see a Han Solo origin story.  It's a big universe, they should be telling stories from different periods- kind of like the Knights of the Old Republic.  A movie a year is a lot- no way each film going forward will be a huge event.  Fandom will die down.
