Is there anyone here that holds this hell of a tune among their favourite U2 songs?
I am firmly convinced that it's one of the 90's U2 magnus opus, and that it should appear on every list of U2 best songs ever.
It's an absolute perfect blend of bold/extravagant ideas and catchy hooks.
Sadly, the boys never cared too much about it, and dropped it altogether from the setlist of Popmart right just when they were close to getting it right... Surely the american crowds reaction played a big part on their decision, but the song had immense potential.
As a proof, this is the third to last performance in Eugene, before it was axed. Without doubt the best one.
I'm sure the european Popmart crowds would've gone mad for it but, as the story tells, the tune never saw the old continent and was dropped after only seven performances.
I think it was a big mistake not releasing it as a single (as they initially wanted to), it would've had a good run on the charts. I would argue it would had been even a better choice than Discothèque as the lead single...
Perhaps without the initial backlash things would had been different regarding the album reception.
But it's the same old tiresome story right?
