I've been a consistent paid up member of U2.com since 2004/2005. I use 2004/2005 because I can't remember when they started offering membership on the new website combined with the vertigo tour and ticket sales for the tour. They had a website of some type before 2004 but it closed down. The current website has been up and running consistently since 2004/2005.

Ironically i rec'd an email today stating that this years subscriber gift has just shipped.  Guess this will be my last thing from them - unless they came out with something ultra cool next year or in the coming years - which i highly doubt.

I've had great experiences getting General Admission tickets in the pre-sales for every tour except the Vertigo Tour which was swamped with demand and other issues. I enjoy the site, the free annual stuff, and of course being in the priority pre-sale group every time they go on the road anywhere in the world.

I remember staying up all night outside a department store, several times, in 1992 for tickets and occasionally dodging the police because of certain laws. It was an experience as you would meet hundreds of fans from a lot of different places. Pretty cold on most of those nights getting tickets the next morning for ZOO TV shows.

The general admission tickets are also generally the best and the cheapest tickets in the house, plus the sellout instantly sometimes. So that's another good reason to remain a member. The best tickets at the cheapest price.

The GA ticket pre-sale was the primary reason i joined the site in the first place.  At this point there are unsold tickets for nearly every show for the current tour,  so tickets are available on the market if someone doesn't have to get GA tickets.  I don't know if i will bother with any more concerts - jury is still out for me on that.  But the run around i got from the u2 store when ordering t-shirts this past summer was the last straw for me and them.  I've always hear of the horror stories with u2 dot come and some of the ticket fiascoes are well documented,  but until now that was always something that happened to someone else.

Given that GA tickets are the best tickets and are at the cheapest price, I don't see why someone would want to purchase any other ticket. In terms of just getting any ticket to a show in general, its not an issue for stadium shows depending on the market. I did have a friend in France use my special code back in 2005 because otherwise he would not be able to get tickets in the general sale for Paris. I did not have good luck with pre-sale code in 2005 and thought he could get better use out of it. That was 2005 though, the site was brand new, and demand vs supply of tickets was a huge mismatch.

I've never actually purchased merchandise from U2.com. I just have the membership for the pre-sale tickets, the annual gift, and the stuff that is available on the website for free.

From what i recall people here on this site had problems getting tickets from u2 dot come for the current tour,  so they clearly have not mastered the art of online ticket sales after all of these years.  Also,  some people don't want GA tickets,  so they aren't necessarily the best tickets.  Everyone is different i suppose - seems to be a common theme here lately doesn't it?

I was a member from 2008 through I+E, then I dropped it (2015 maybe?) and I see no reason whatsoever to get a new membership.  The demand for tickets is just not there to justify giving them $50 every year or whatever it is.

GA tickets are best if you want to be in the closest proximity to the band. I think Ticketmaster actually runs the ticketing process at U2.com.

In any event, I've never had any problems(post 2005) and get the best tickets easily.

I’ve paid a couple of times - during 360 for early tickets and when they released medium rare CD. Other than that I find it a waste of money

If you want to be insured at getting General admission tickets at list price to an arena show, then it is necessary. Each arena show at best will only have 2,000 General Admission tickets available.

But it helps save money when at concert time when your able to buy the much cheaper general admission tickets as opposed to the much higher price or even averaged priced tickets. You also get the annual gift every year which is usually worth at least half of the membership fee.
